You can get a reward if you help the Regional Tuna Tagging Project – Indian Ocean find tuna fish which have a yellow, white or red tag on their backs. If you catch or find a tuna with a tag with
“IOTC VICTORIA SEYCHELLES – REWARD”
written on it, you must keep the tag and write down:
The name of tuna species
The length of the tuna from the nose to the middle of the tail
The name of the boat and where you fished the tuna
For White and Red Tags in addition to the tag, the project also needs to recover the head of the tuna for you to receive your reward. Rewards for White Tags are larger than for yellow tags.
For Red Tags in addition to the tag and the head of the tuna, the Project needs to recover the small electronic device inside the belly of the tuna for you to receive your reward. Rewards for Red Tags are the biggest.
You will need to contact a project representative in your country in order to return the tag and required information (and tuna head and or electronic device if it is a White or Red Tag).
Alternatively, you can complete the online tag recovery form and send the tag directly to the project’s headquarters in Seychelles.
In the case of the recovery of white or red tags, please contact the project to be informed in what to do with the head of the tuna, since this can not be sent by post.
All tag finders will also be entered into periodic lottery draws with even bigger prizes to be won.
